I made this just to introduce it to my kids as I was not sure if the store-bought peanut butter had any preservatives in it. So, one fine day I just decided to make this delicious peanut butter and since then we have been eating this healthy peanut butter made at home. I have made this baby-friendly and did not add any salt or sugar to it giving it a rich nutty flavour. But you can choose to add a pinch of maple syrup and/ or salt if you are making it for adults. It really doesn’t matter. It tastes best either way.

Homemade peanut butter Ingredients

All you need to make this creamy peanut butter at home is roasted peanuts. Or raw peanuts that can be roasted.

If you are trying to introduce this to your baby, make sure to introduce it a bit and watch for any allergic reactions. Peanuts are rich in protein and are a great substitute for your kids. And this peanut butter just makes everything tasty. If your child refuses bread or chapati or dosa, try adding a bit of peanut butter to it and see the magic.

You can roast the peanuts on a medium flame or roast them in the oven. I have used normal peanuts in this recipe and roasted them in the oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes until they are crisp. Make sure to not burn them.

FAQs Homemade Peanut Butter No Sugar

1. How long does homemade peanut butter last?

For up to 3 months at room temperature when stored in an airtight container. It can last a little longer if refrigerated. But you will know if the peanut butter has gone bad just by the smell.

2. Why is my homemade peanut butter not creamy?

When you are processing or blending the roasted peanuts, it feels like you are doing it for a very long time. It is just the matter of that extra blend that turns the grainy peanut butter into creamy smooth peanut butter. If you still feel the peanut butter is not creamy enough, add a spoon of oil and blend for some more time.

3. Can I add water while making peanut butter?

Not a good idea! It is not suggested to add any kinds of water-based liquids as nut butter is rich in natural oils. Adding water can separate oil and water causing it hard to use as a spread losing the purpose and texture of nut butter.

4. Which food processor is best for making peanut butter?

You can make peanut butter in a food processor or blender or even a mixer. If you do not have any and are planning to buy one, I would highly recommend getting the Cuisinart 14 cup food processor which is great to make nut butter.

5. Does peanut butter go bad?

Yes. Peanut butter loses its flavour and goes rancid in one year. Oxygenation ruins peanut butter. Hence it is suggested to store them in airtight containers and refrigerate them for longer shelf life.

6. Does homemade peanut butter taste better?

Absolutely yummy! Well, it was the first time I experimented making peanut butter 3 years ago while my daughter was 6 months. I have been loving the homemade creamy peanut butter for the fact that it is healthy & I know what I used to make it and baking using homemade peanut butter is so delicious and so fresh. 1. Wow, this is a GREAT idea. Our household just got a high-quality food processor in November, as something to help prep meals for our dog (yeah, she’s super spoiled…). We haven’t made a single thing with it for the people in the home, but I really love this idea! Peanut butter is one of the few things that everyone in the house loves — I’m excited to make our first batch of peanut butter from scratch! πŸ™‚

My kids abosultely loved it. The consistency was really good as well. I definitely have an added advantage as Rashmi is my neighbour and I can buy it fresh from her as well πŸ™‚
