Spinach Pasta for Baby
Yes! This can be given to babies 8 months+ provided you have introduced the ingredients already.
My super picky toddler loves this recipe. And I love the fact that it is super rich in iron and takes hardly 10 minutes to make the entire recipe.
I pre-cook the pasta in the instant pot and on the side make the creamy sauce ready, so just toss in the pasta and serve the superfood to kids after. Less mess to clean up and makes the cooking simple which gives me the time to sit and enjoy this delicious creamy spinach pasta with my family.
For the rich creamier sauce, I use spinach, tomato, butter, cheese and a pinch of whole wheat flour. I am drooling just writing the ingredients.
Ingredients you need for creamy spinach pasta recipe
Here is what you need to make this healthy family meal:
- Pasta – A whole wheat organic pasta is the best choice when you are introducing it to your baby. But make sure have checked for gluten allergy if any. You do get gluten-free pastas if you need.
- Spinach – A handful of fresh spinach leaves gives taste and colour making it the heart of this recipe.
- Tomato – One fresh tomato or tomato puree adds taste and texture.
- Garlic – I normally use a clove of fresh garlic. But you can also use garlic powder if required.
- Butter – A half stick of butter is good enough to give rich creaminess to this recipe.
- Cheese – I normally use cheddar or mozarella cheese but you can also try other hard cheese.
- Cream – 1 tablespoon of cream is used to make it creamy.
- Whole wheat flour – I use a pinch of flour to thicken the sauce.
- Oregano – For flavor.
- Pepper
- Salt
Alternate ingredients that can be used (Including Vegan & allergen-free)
- You can add corn to this recipe if your baby likes. My kids love them.
- You can also try the spinach pesto version of this recipe which is also amazing.
- Try using mini pasta like macroni or ditalini if you are making it for baby or toddler.
- You can make the vegan version or dairy free by replacing butter with olive oil, choosing vegan pasta and eliminate cream.
Instructions to make creamy tomato and spinach pasta
- Cook pasta in an instant pot for 3minutes with a 1:1 pasta water ratio or as per the instructions given behind the pasta container.
- Meanwhile boil spinach leaves for couple minutes in water until it is cooked.
- Grind a tomato, cooked spinach, a garlic clove in a food processor.
- In a pan, melt butter and fry a pinch of whole wheat flour for a few seconds.
- To this, add the grind paste of spinach and tomato and cook until you see it boil.
- Add a spoon of cream, cheese and toss in the cooked pasta and salt.
- Add pepper and oregano seasoning.
- Serve it hot with some parmesan sprinkled.
Tips
- Cooking pasta can be tricky sometimes. if the water ratio is not right or is over cooked, pasta can be too mushy making it not appealing to eat. Add a drop of oil and a pinch of salt before you cook the pasta so that it does not stick to each other or does not get mushy.
- Other thing you can do is as soon as you remove pasta from hot water, rince a couple of times in cold water so they dont turn mushy or sticky.
