What are the ingredients of curd rice?
Here is what you need to make this curd rice recipe:
- Curd/ Yogurt – Curd is high in protein and calcium and is a good source of probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that help to improve gut health. I have used 2 generous cups of curd/ yogurt.
- Rice – 1 cup of rice cooked for 2 minutes in an instant pot (use 1:1 water and rice proportion to cook rice). The sona masoori rice makes best option to make this recipe.
- Pomegranate – Pomegranate is a good source of fiber, vitamin C, and potassium that adds colour and flavour to yogurt rice. I have used half a cup of pomegranate.
- Grapes – Grapes are a good source of fiber, vitamin C, and potassium. Add half a cup of chopped grapes to curd rice. This is optional and can be eliminated if your baby does not like grapes.
- Ginger – A little spice and a good fragrance adding some health and flavour to curd rice. An inch small ginger is grated and used in this recipe.
- Channa Dal – A small tbsp of channa dal is added to curd rice.
- Urad Dal – A small tbsp of urad dal is added to add some crunchiness.
- Olive Oil/ Butter – One tbsp of olive oil is used to temper.
- Mustard seeds – To temper
- Salt – Can be added to toddlers 12 months+. Can totally be eliminated as it is not a necessary ingredient.

- Cook 1 cup of rice for 2 minutes in an instant pot. A 1:1 ratio of water and rice makes perfectly soft rice to mix for curd rice. A little extra water is perfectly fine to make it mushy for babies.
- Cooldown the rice by spreading them in a bowl.
- Add 2 cups of curd/ yogurt and mix it well with rice. Add water to adjust thickness.
- Heat a spoon of olive oil or butter, add mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal and ginger. Fry them till they are golden brown and add it to the mixed curd rice.
- Add pomegranate, chopped grapes, salt and mix well before serving the curd rice.
- Alternately, you can also add chopped carrots, boiled corn and chopped cilantro.
