Healthy Easy BLW Homemade Pesto Pizza/ Flatbread

There are many different ways to make a BLW pizza, but this is one of our favourites. It’s simple, healthy and delicious! And my picky eaters favourite too. With fresh, healthy ingredients, this makes a wholesome meal and also promotes baby-led-weaning.

I make small bite-size pizzas that are easy to hold using palmer or pincer grasp by babies. And the dough is made of whole wheat which will be soft and easy to chew for babies & toddlers. The pesto sauce is easy to make and can be stored for up to a month in the refrigerator.

What do you need to make homemade Pesto Pizza?

Here are the simple ingredients that you need to make this simple recipe:

  • Whole wheat bread/ Avocado Flatbread (homemade/ store brought) – I prefer making whole wheat flatbread at home with just organic whole wheat flour, butter and water. And I make small bite size flatbreads that are easy to hold for babies. I have used 1 cup whole wheat flour to make 10 small bite sized flatbreads.
  • Homemade Pesto Sauce – With simple herbs, cheese and olive oil, this homemade pesto sauce is our favourite at home. And I use it to make pesto pasta, pesto dip and pesto flatbreads.
  • Toppings – You can choose to use your favourite toppings to go on the pizza/ flatbread. I have used some healthy & fresh vegetables.
    • Broccoli – 10 florets
    • Tomato – 1/2 chopped
  • Mozzarella cheese – A generous cup of mozzarella pizza is used to make this pest pizza. You can choose to add vegan cheese to make a vegan version.
  • Pepper & oregano seasoning – If required to introduce flavours to baby.

Instructions to make Pesto Flatbread

Making pizza is very very simple. Follow these simple instructions:

  • Prepare a whole wheat pizza dough by adding 1 cup of whole wheat flour, one tbsp butter and half a cup of water added in parts to make a soft and stiff pizza dough. Or use avocado flatbread to make it healthier.
  • Make a small bite size balls out of the dough and using a rolling pin make them into shapes or bite size flatbreads.
  • Preheat the oven at 350 degrees.
  • Spread the parchment paper on pizza plate and arrange the flatbreads.
  • Smear pesto sauce on each flatbread.
  • Add your favourite toppings.
  • Add the cheese & seasonings.
  • Toss it into the preheated oven and bake them for 8-10 minutes until the flatbread is cooked well.
  • Cooldown and serve the yummy and healthy pesto pizzas for your baby.

Quicker alternate to make this blw pizza

Well, here is another simple way to make this pizza quickly (in 10 mins).

  • Saute the veggies or topping well in advance using olive oil.
  • Prepare the dough and cook both sides on a heated pan.
  • Add pesto sauce, sauteed veggies and cheese on the flatbread and let the cheese melt for a quick minute.
